When redesigning old buildings there can be unknown challenges but also hidden possibilities! In this apartment we were fortunate to discover well preserved original elements that we integrated into our design, maintaining the original woodwork of the doorframes and entablature. With these as our foundation, we created new room layouts and woodwork complimentary to the existing features.

With their panoramic and almost cinematic views, we decided to make the apartment’s windows a main feature. No matter where you are in the space, there is always a view to the outside. To capitalise on and enhance the abundance of natural light, we created an open plan space: parallel to the windows we formed an open main axis along the length of the apartment, resulting in a light, open and spacious residence. To add contrast to the geometry of the main structure of the space, we introduced different kinds of wood – in the flooring, the furniture and the joinery – resulting in an unconventional patchwork of materials.

We combined newly designed pieces with original vintage design classics to create a fresh visual language.

We created custom made furniture, especially designed to the requirements of this property. The furniture was made to fit the apartment’s layout, whilst offering the flexibility to be adjusted for different situations. We combined newly designed pieces with original vintage design classics to create a fresh visual language. The space serves as a calm, functional apartment, while never being boring! It welcomes its guests to explore details and enjoy the surprises.
